Pros

Freedom to develop ones own business - solid support and resources behind you. Great benefits and pay as well as encouragement from mentor.

Cons

Prospecting for clients can be difficult, particularly door to door type marketing. In order to sustain income a strong base of business must be built, as salary does not last very long.

Pros

they pay for your licenses and pay you while you study for them

Cons

nothing else - poor compensation, poor management, very poor setup for the FA This is the worst job I've ever had in my life. I have heard this job being described by a GP as one of the greatest opportunities in american capitalism - DO NOT BE FOOLED! they want you to do almost free advertising for them and take your accounts when you fail. This is too similar to a pyramid scheme - guess who benefits? All the general partners at the top!

Pros

The freedom to work your own hours. The cell phone discount. Pretty good training for the Series 7 and 66.

Cons

Starting from ZERO accounts and trying to build a book of business by going door-to-door dressed like a Jehovah's Witness is extremely inefficient. Their business plan is to hire as many FAs as possible, hope they open a few accounts, and then fire them for not meeting performance expectations and transfer their accounts to those who have "made it". The few FAs who are successful usually rely on getting friends and family members to invest with them in order to get their business going. The company culture is very Kool-Aid-ish. They send you to the home office for rah-rah training and hold regional meetings to try and motivate you to sell. They say all you need to do is follow the "recipe", which is make 25 contacts a day--what a joke. Working from home also sucks--its hard to seem credible when you tell a prospect you work out of your kitchen.
