Pros

You can make a lot of money from commissions, there is very little management interference in your own office, you can genuinely help some people to save and invest.

Cons

You only make money from certain types of investments and some investments are off the table altogether. Expectations are very high with great training to begin with but then you're left alone with no base salary or support. To compete you need to spend money on business club memberships, advertising and office related costs including postage, and without a base salary you are at a disadavntage to your local competitiors.

Pros

Privately held. Not subject to take over. Minimal layoffs in the culture of the firm. The limited partnership offerings are a great benefit with a fixed income portion. They believe in training and associates have opportunity to grow into increasing responsibility when skills are demonstrated.

Cons

Benefits are not similar to other large companies in the same industry. They try but the profit structure does not allow Edward Jones to compete as aggressively as others in the benefit category for associates.

Pros

You can control how much money you make. If you want to work 70 hours a week you will reap the rewards. The fate of your performance lies in how far you want to go. You can take a day off when ever you want because it is your business but if you do this then you are not going to make any money that day.

Cons

Doorknocking is awful but it is really the true way to find clients and to make money. Also they push the numbers pretty hard on you if you do not make the numbers expect a phone call and termination is the name of the game in the early stages.
