Pros

Great company benefits, fun/friendly coworkers, easy-going atmosphere

Cons

-They talk about the ability to move throughout the company, but it's not that easy and work politics can prevent you from moving to different teams. -Their pay scale is way below competitors--I made, on average, $10K less than those with similar work experience and in the same position at other companies. -Getting a promotion can be a lengthy process, or non-existent at all. I was only lucky enough to be promoted through a reorg. Later, when I requested another promotion, I was told they wouldn't know if it were possible for a few months. After 8 months there was no progress, so I left the company. -Things were typically behind--for example, we were behind on receiving approved budgets, or behind in getting programs moving.

Pros

Elsevier is a professional, multinational publishing organization, full of smart people, and helping customers achieve amazing things. The organization is professional, with good opportunities to learn and evolve. The company is also becoming more open minded in trying new business models, and tools to support more users in scalable ways.

Cons

While there are opportunities to grow (e.g. with greater management responsibility and in title) it is extremely hard to grow compensation. Salary increases are modest, and they are often counter-balanced by cuts, e.g. in bonuses. After several years this forces many people out.
