Everyone I've worked with is smart, hard working, and passionate about improving dogs' lives. Almost all are also pleasant to work with and respectful.
Cons
Even after some recent improvements to the scientist compensation scale, the pay is still below average, and there aren't a lot of opportunities for advancement as the company tends to hire externally rather than promote internally.

Thank you for your feedback, at Embark we conduct an annual compensation review to ensure fair and competitive pay. We have made adjustments this year to salaries that were not keeping pace with market for members of the Science and other teams. As always, our goal is to provide a great Total Rewards package with competitive health and wellness benefits, equity, unlimited time off, and more. If you have specific questions about your compensation, please connect with your manager or someone on the People Team and we’d be more than happy to discuss with you.
It’s a great product that’s making a difference, the team is very hardworking. As far as day to day my immediate managers are the best I’ve ever had. The company as a whole has also handled the pandemic really well.
Cons
There’s a very clear hierarchy which makes sense for it being a company but given our current size it can feel a little insulting if you’re working one of the lower tier jobs. Often I’m wondering if I should applaud the transparency or question if they think the little guys are just obtuse. Additionally, the pay isn’t great which doesn’t feel great when you feel like a cog in the machine.
- Flexibility (work from home and unlimited vacation)
- Dogs! Employees can bring their dogs in and frequently do. So fun!
- Intelligent/positive/understanding people who want to see you succeed
- Executives are genuine and are accessible by everyone in the company
- Mission orientated. We all want to help dogs
- Competitive pay (salary + options)
- Work doesn’t feel like work
- Growing super fast. Executives do a great job managing growth
Cons
Not many cons. There is no 401K match but that’s expected at a startup
