Pros

Emerson has good starting salary for entry level professionals ( fresh graduates and the likes). It is a good company to gain good experience in different areas of the industry. It is an equal opportunity employer and has a good customer loyalty base.

Cons

They want more work for less pay. They do not negotiate if you intend to leave, but when you do, they will give what you were asking for to the person they hire to replace you. Has a high attrition rate in some locations. You can get promoted even if you suck as long as you have good people under you whom you can take credit from.

Pros

Small town, where they are the largest white collar worker. Salary is decent given it is a small town and the cost of living is cheap. You know pretty much everyone in the company. The local level employees work well together excluding upper management. A good age mix of people working at emerson. Don't need a 4 year degree to work there. The company is relatively stable and has been for years, the customer base has core customers that I have not seen leave. If you don't like to travel you are not required to travel at all. People like to drink a lot if you like that.

Cons

Technologies are old and out dated, working in the job for to long is a dead end for your career. Management has only one selection criteria for promotions, and that's if you are best friends with the manager that is giving the promotion. Lazy people are often shuffled around when they are poor at doing their jobs, they are never ever fired. Don't need a 4 year degree to work there. Quality travel assignments are handed out to those that are liked sales cruises for favorites in engineering, trips to the north slope in Alaska during october/november if you are not a favorite.

Pros

Emerson is an organization full of opportunities for growth especially for people with backgrounds in engineering or science. Co-workers are congenial and opportunities abound at headquarters and the various divisions. Most employees are welcoming and willing to share their experiences and offer advice to new employees. Work-life balance has never been a problem. Most divisions are willing to work around family obligations so that employees can maintain a good balance between the office an home.

Cons

Emerson is a very conservative, process oriented organization. If you are looking for innovation and flexibility, this might not be the best place for you. It is sometimes difficult to navigate the matrixed nature of the organization.
