Too competitive

Pros

- access to good resources

Cons

- internal competition. I worked in two labs there and neither one of them felt like a team. In fact, in my first lab, the more senior research assistant did not want to train me because she felt threatened that I would be assigned work that would get me a publication, and she wanted it instead. - I spoke to my first boss about the issue (above) and she did nothing. And my boss in my second lab thought that "motivation" was to belittle someone, and that would get them to work harder... Didn't work.

Pros

This is highly dependent on the lab you work in, but overall my experience showed that Emory is considerate of employees yet practical about the job.

Cons

The commitment to pragmatism often pushed higher ups to lack empathy for students.
