Pros

Working in academia has its perks. Encouragement of learning and development is possible if you go after it. Work is meaningful to helping move science and medicine forward.

Cons

Each lab runs as its own small company, so choose wisely. Scientists and doctors are smart but frequently have poor people and management skills. Low opportunity to move up.

Pros

Benefits are decent, not amazing though. Pay is pretty good for the educational industry. If you have kids and can put in 10 years they get tuition paid in full. Retirement contributions are pretty good.

Cons

Your boss defines your work experience. It can really change drastically boss to boss. Raises have been 0 or near zero for several years now.

Pros

Great benefits, stable, friendly work environment, lots of wellness opportunities, good pay.

Cons

Difficult to get ahead if you don't want to stay in your same position, each department/school is very different, moving from one department to another is almost like going to a different company.
