Pros

Hard work & dedication is rewarded. Opportunities to promote at 6 months.

Cons

Because good workers are promoted, there’s a drop off in support at times.

Pros

Colleagues are friendly and helpful.

Cons

While some labs have a strong mentorship culture, my experience lacked that support. My supervisor and PI were not particularly focused on fostering educational growth or encouraging in-depth scientific discussions about the project. This created an environment where it was difficult to feel excited or fully engaged with the research. Once you learn the basic techniques, the work becomes repetitive, with little opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the research area. Additionally, there was limited encouragement to pursue growth opportunities, as the expectation seemed to be that you stay in your current role without seeking development. This lab may be a good place to gain initial experience, but it’s likely best suited for those looking to move on after a year or so in search of better opportunities.
