      A decent place to work.

      Pros

      If you really enjoy your job this is a good place to work. The benefits are great, the learning environment is great. It is located in a nice area. And there are plenty of opportunities to advance throughout the university.

      Cons

      Even though it is a private university there is still a lot of bureaucracy, which stifles the working environment. This is allows for more political decisions rather than decisions that are made in the best interest of the mission and goals of the department and/or university. Also, It seems teleworking and other work-life benefits are only allowed for a select few.

      Emory has changed a lot in the last 5 years

      Pros

      It was a good place for a long time. I felt like I was doing something more than just building widgets for the public to buy. Involved in making the world a little better and working with others who had a good attitude that went beyond just making money. Open to change and a healthy balance between work and family life.

      Cons

      Emory changed several years back. A new President and CFO has made Emory more interested in the bottom line. Seems to have affected the entire University not just my department. Generally everyone seems nervous about their continued employment and the lack of good general management skills is really hurting entire University and Hospital

      Pros

      The faculty is relatively small, though they are expanding to a new building and hiring several more faculty.

      Cons

      Not sure yet, as I haven't been here that long.
