An OK place to attend grad school

Pros

Some of the faculty (mostly younger) are great. They are really concerned about grad students and do their best on your behalf. There are some exciting opportunities if you deal with the bureaucracy and pervasive sense of entitlement. With very little effort you can also find some amazing undergrads to work with.

Cons

Too many of the senior faculty have egos so large I'm surprised that they haven't collapsed the ground and created a crater where Emory used to stand. Every single grad level lecture class I took was terrible - none of the professors "teaching" have any training as lecturers and it shows. Many of them try (again, mostly the younger ones), but that doesn't help the students any. There were virtually no opportunities in my program to supplement your income, so if your PI doesn't get a grant renewed or you can't land your own, there's high odds you'll just be out of luck. The Emory endowment is nearly $7 billion, but the very few TA positions available pay less than a state university I previously attended.

Pros

Amazing support through the leaders and supervisor; Great professional development experience; the leeway and freedom to craft programs of your choice

Cons

No cons or anything negative to say. I worked there while they were doing reorgs so there was some difficulty adjusting to that.
