Pros

Overall great environment, they hire the very best because it is such an esteemed institution. Very understanding of the work/ school balance and willing to work around it

Cons

Compensation was low, but what do you expect? You're a student assistant. Sometimes I wished I could work more hours, but it's hard to get that due to department budget constraints

Great Research University

Pros

Cutting edge research in most fields, large and diverse graduate student body, great transportation system on and off-campus, good pay and benefits. The university has been enjoying a period of expansion in the past few years.

Cons

The departments tend to be insulated from one another, while the faculty mostly focuses on their own research, leaving teaching duties to their TAs. (To be fair, this applies to most R1 universities.)
