Pros

Wow! This 38 year-old company feels more like a startup these days! Such a unique culture and unique company. We focus on helping and improving the lives of those who need it most. We have not forgotten our roots, but have really started to think more in line with the future and implementing new software, processes, etc. across the board. We've hired more people, we've promoted people, we've changed the look and feel of the company by investing in all departments. As a tenured employee, it's so encouraging to see the improvements and the investments that the management team is making. I am absolutely proud to work here. I like to think of work in 3 buckets. 1) What is my job and do I like it? 2) Who do I work for and do I respect them? 3) What does the company do and do I connect with it? It's not often that you get a checkmark for all 3, but Emphasys absolutely gives me all 3....in addition to a great salary and bonus. I cannot recommend this place more!

Cons

With all change comes some growing pains. These are not only to be expected, but Management has done a great job at anticipating them. The team feels supported as we continue to improve.

Pros

Lots of opportunity to implement modern practices and solutions. If you want to work somewhere you can feel like you're making a positive impact (public housing).

Cons

Upper Management lacks the industry standard knowledge expected in a software company, this causes unnecessary problems and additional employee work. - One software investment company (Arcadea) was created specifically after watching how Aquila and Constellation absorb software companies then milk them for all they're worth without providing meaningful value back into the organization/employees/clients. Employee compensation is lagging behind industry standard, this has led to massive skilled employee retention losses to higher paying offers. Every quarterly update we're told we're the highest earning business unit in Altair/Aquila, but raises are paltry and seldom, Upper management refuse to promote or adjust compensation except until the end of the year. Upper management focuses on bonuses as primary means of compensation, though the way they calculate the bonuses changes frequently (never in employee favor). Salaries are not keeping up with Cost of Living, or skill growth. All personal development has been through personal growth (no company drive for individual growth). Personal efforts beyond basic duties are not respected or appreciated if they don't have a direct financial correlation to how much it'll save the company.
