Pros
If I could describe my time working at 7 eleven in one word, it would be "chaotic." Fast-paced doesn't quite do the job justice, particularly if you work at a gas bar location. There were days where I swear, the shift felt 30 minutes long. You eventually build a strong relationship with your regulars, many of whom I STILL talk to outside of work, and if you are lucky enough to work midnight shifts, the people who will come in are legitimately entertaining.
Cons
My one-year experience at 7 Eleven was a test of how long I could let a manager's poor decisions take precedent over conscience and, well, actual food safety protocol. Most days, the manager, in an attempt to cut costs and pet herself on the back as having the highest profit margins in the country - a fact that she bragged about constantly - she would order us to keep "fresh" food on the tray for upwards of 8 hours, so as not to waste it. Now for context, the food is meant to be thrown out after 2 hours, you know, so as not to give the customers food poisoning. When I was just starting out, fresh out of my training videos, I made the grave mistake of throwing a pizza out after 2 hours, and was met with sharp reprimands from said manager, saying that I was wasting store money. This was a strong indicator as to how the rest of my time at the location would go. Management itself was not horrible. She was a nice enough lady and treated us all fairly, and encouraged us to do the best we can, while understanding our own limits. However, the complete lack of regard for customer safety was just.... a very sour note for me.
