Pros

I was given a lot of room to grow and learn new skills with this company. I really enjoyed and respected the many levels of management. I was a part of a good team that really pushed for career development and self-improvement. This is a company that will make you work hard to get to the top of the corporate ladder, and I really enjoyed that. I never felt bored in my work.

Cons

I paid $200/mo for health insurance, there were a few times during my tenure where I wasn't sure I could afford a co-pay or afford to take the time off when I was sick, I was fortunate that I never had any major surgeries. This may not be a big deal for the employees who make more money, but for junior employees it really takes a toll. It wasn't that management wasn't supportive and I could always work overtime, but this was a major factor in my decision to leave. While we had a very diverse office with various cultures and strong leadership. The culture was very homogenous. The culture committee plans cultural holidays without consulting people of that culture. It wasn't as offensive as it was uncomfortable and when those concerns were voiced I was then singled out by a white employee who asked me to explain why anyone would complain about a cultural celebration suggesting it's just an excuse to drink and eat food (I don't speak for all people of my culture, and I don't understand how my culture is merely an excuse to drink and eat food). By the end of my term I didn't enjoy going to work, I loved the people, but I hated the culture.

Thank you for your comments. We are happy to hear that A Place for Mom gave you the opportunity to grow and develop new skills, that you enjoyed working with your team and that your work was not boring. We are proud of our employees’ diverse backgrounds, and are particularly proud of our employee-driven culture committee. All employees are welcome to join/participate in the culture committee’s plans for celebratory and cultural events. We find that the more employees participate and bring their thoughts to the table, the more enthusiastically the events are received. Healthcare in the United States is expensive. APFM continually looks for ways to help employees improve the value they receive from the money they spend on healthcare. APFM offers cost sharing with employees for monthly premiums including 2 medical plan options-- Traditional PPO and an HSA with an employer contribution. We wish you all the best in your new chapter.

Pros

The company was great a couple years ago. Great pay, training and trust.

Cons

Now the company is a nightmare. Micromanagement is an understatement. There is no trust between the employee and management. New director has brought morale to a halt. Sales are down and customers aren’t happy either.
