Pros

Incredible views of downtown Really nice office Free lunches on occasion Happy Hours on occasion You don’t need to be *that* good at your job to get promoted (so long as you blindly support the Chiefs)

Cons

I could literally write a novel at why this company is so terrible, but I’ll try to keep it relatively brief. The company changed ownership July of 2017 and since then has done a complete 180 on performance and culture The company used to make decisions based on what was driving the most profit dollars and what was good for the employees. However, after the purchase (and the CEO got a super fat check) this suddenly shifted to decisions seemingly guided by the CEO’s personal feelings. From what I witnessed, he fired anyone who disagreed with his decisions and the only people remaining are yes-men (and 2 yes-women). Since decisions are now crafted based on what will make the company look better in front of the board, instead of actual data, and based on a fear of divergence the company is no longer an enjoyable place to work. You have to walk on eggshells, subtly beat around the bush, and blindly follow glaringly bad decisions (otherwise you’re suddenly out of a job). As many other reviewers have pointed out, some reviews have been coerced and/or compensated. Employees (I think they target new and/or field employees) will be sent an email directly to them stating that Glassdoor is critical for recruiting and they’ve been chosen to write a review that month. They’re asked to respond to the email when the new review is posted and in turn they’ll receive an Amazon gift card. HR is head by Legal which is pretty much all you need to know about the work culture. Employees are liabilities, not assets. You will have no one to turn to if you have an actual issue within the company because HR reports to the company’s lawyer who obviously has he company’s best interest at heart, not yours.

A Place for Mom Response
7y
Thank you for your feedback about working at A Place for Mom and we are very sorry that working here was not a better experience for you. As you mentioned, we have undergone some restructuring, but this is so that we can do a better job at our primary purpose: to help families find senior living options. During any period of growth we know that change can be hard and uncomfortable, but we are confident that the decisions we make are in the best interest of our employees and the families and seniors who use our free service. We do encourage employees to offer feedback on sites like Glassdoor, just like you have. However, we do not offer any kind of incentive to employees to leave reviews, positive or otherwise. The gift card you mentioned below is an annual gift employees receive on their anniversary hire date as a token of our appreciation for all they bring to A Place for Mom. If have wish to discuss further, we encourage you to email us (hr@aplaceformom.com) so we can continue to talk and hopefully address your concerns one on one.

Pros

My time as a Senior Living Advisor included both learning opportunities and difficult aspects. I appreciated the chance to help families and build my skills in the role.

Cons

I felt the compensation didn’t fully match the level of responsibility and workload. Over time, the pay structure became one of the main reasons my role was difficult to stay in long term.
