Beginners job - Secretary AAA Communications Employee Review

You get paid $3 more than minimum wage, the job itself is so easy that it's mind-numbing, very casual environment. Some of the people you will talk on the phone/interact with throughout the day are super awesome. You'll pick up on names, regular callers, etc, and it lets you have a little chit chat to break up the monotony. Sometimes you'd get really absurd calls that escalate and end up giving everyone in the office a laugh. When there were good/laid back days, they were genuinely enjoyable.

The top-level managers (who're all family, it's family-owned) were the only ones who had consistent schedules (aka, always M-F, four hours on Saturday, Sunday off), so they get the luxury of being able to make plans/schedule things. The same benefit is not afforded to the employees. The schedule is 100% completely random. Wanna plan something farther out than a week in advance? Good luck. I can honestly say I'd have rather done 5.5 days a week like they did than be at the mercy of their Random Schedule Generator. I've tried to rationalize it but I can't honestly justify why their scheduling system had to be the way that it was. In general, the family members / managers were not at all held to any expectation while the employees were scrutinized to the core. Not to mention that basically all calls are recorded and WILL be used against you. Basically no empathy when it comes to calling out. You are required to have a doctor's note or else you will be harassed, given snide remarks, and disappointed looks when you return. Oh, and likely also fired. The higher-ups should be able to assume, if I'm working a job like this, on a pay like this, that doctors may not exactly be in my reach (which is not the case for the more handsomely paid managers). There are several times where I went in while feeling like absolute crap (even if I had the flu) because I knew if I tried to call out without a doctor's note, I'd be fired, and if I tried to play by the rules and go to the doctor with my measly $600 (after tax) biweekly check, I'll probably go without eating much that week, among other things like the bills i have to pay. It's Florida, after all. Trying to suggest that doctors, visits, etc, are so easily accessible on a wage like this is perhaps my biggest gripe with the management. Just how much money they make compared to the employees seems to have blinded them, no matter how relatable they may try to act towards you, and the opportunities for advancement are very, very slim. You basically have to commit years of your life (with all of the other detrimental issues in mind) in order to even be considered. ALL THINGS CONSIDERED - This job is fine in the short term. You probably won't even notice these issues for the first few months, and you'll probably even like it, or at the very least be unphased by the things I mentioned above. If you need something to tide you over between jobs for a couple months, this could be it. Stay around too long, though, and you will discover how arguably unfair, unprofessional, and disengaged (with its employees) this place is. I got out right before Christmas because it honestly became kind of sickening to be a part of.

Poorly paid. When I started I was making $10 an hour. Cost of living goes up but don’t expect a raise any time soon. Small family run business so not much of an opportunity to move up with this company unless your family
