Pros

Work hours; benefits; location; fellow colleagues who are talented and passionate about the non-profit environment and the mission; those managers that fight for their staff even if they risk their reputation among peers.

Cons

Promotion/pay is stagnant and favors those who either 'network' or are the true 'poster children' of the organization. Many managers have no idea what the middle level employees are truly doing to make the trains run on time or even how their program should be managed efficiently. Also, there is too many layers just to get constituents' answers and provide excellent customer service. Lastly, low morale is now the daily mood within many departments but no one is willing to address the tough issues honestly and fairly across the organization.
