Pros

Salary and Benefits are the only two that I can think of.

Cons

-There are only 2 12 hour shifts that you could work (midnight to noon or visa versa) -As a salary employee, there is no over-time, so they can work you as many hours per week as they "need" to -You typically would work 3 days on and be off for 3 days unless you get stuck working an "extra" (self-explanitory) -You are required to discipline the dock workers daily by writing them up and/or issuing warning letters. Failure to do so results in disiplinary actions for you -ABF is a Teamster unionized employer, which means that they (dock workers) practically get away with everything, to include and especially talking to management however they want and treating supervisors poorly and disrespectfully. -High level of micro-management all around -Low moral -Was not a good work atmosphere when I was there

Pros

Low stress environment. No cost Healthcare benefits. An amazing Defined Benifit Pension. Terrific Company to work for.

Cons

Working on a cold dock in the Winter with do doors. Some workers that don’t appreciate the benifits of working under a Teamster contract.

Pros

Pay is best in the business. $100,000+ first year as a road driver. Year two I made $107,000… and took two months off for cancer surgery. Year three I made $129,000. I average 2-3 nights per week in a hotel. Usually only 1 night out then back home the next day. Frequently running turns (home at end of the run). Insurance is free and EXCELLENT coverage. I paid $1,000 total out-of-pocket for cancer surgery.

Cons

Not much life/work balance. Frustrating spending time on the extra board waiting to get a call to go to work, but with more seniority you get less wait time.
