Pros
Getting to connect with both the kids and their families. Lots of support from other BI's, management, and staff.
Cons
Compensation: Hours aren't steady as they're appointment based and drive time factors into your weekly allotment so you can't quite reach 40 hours. In the same vein, drive time is paid at a lower rate than your hourly which is expected, but it still stinks. Travel: Depending on how staffing goes for your area, you may have to travel to the limits of your agreed upon range (30 miles) to get work. This adds up both in terms of stress and wear and tear on your vehicle. Benefits: To get them, your monthly average is pro-rated over a 12 month period so any significant number of cancellations or only part time work can make you not qualify. Advancement really only available to those with advanced degrees. Limited contact with co-workers, at least in WA state where a lot of cases are handled by a single BI. I hear that in CA they're shared more often.
