Pros

The best thing I could say about this company is that there are some good people that make it enjoyable and it is a faith-based organization that sets it aside from the other corporate field.

Cons

VISION – There is no clear vision for where this company wants to excel or what it wants to do well. Leadership seems to believe that acquiring other companies will improve the bottom line, yet they consistently refuse to improve the products they already have. Multiple products serve the same purpose, but none outperform the competition. The company lacks the insight needed to truly understand what churches need and to develop tools that enable effective ministry. They also fail to create tools that are usable not just by church staff, but by volunteers and attendees—tools that could help make their software a household name. As a result, when churches sign up for a Church Management System, they often do not recognize the product names or the company, and nothing stands out from the competition. FAILING ACQUISITIONS – ACST has attempted to make progress in their software offerings, but they are hamstrung by their reliance on acquiring other companies—companies that often come with their own problems. These are then awkwardly shoehorned into existing systems, leading to a fractured ecosystem. They now have multiple products intended to serve the same purposes, yet each one falls short due to functional or user experience issues. BAD WORK ENVIRONMENT – ACST frequently reorganizes its teams without considering team dynamics or working relationships. They separate teams that should be collaborating and reassign them based on executive preferences, often without understanding what the teams do or how they operate. Some departments duplicate work already being done elsewhere. Reorganizations are also used as a primary method of employee termination, with individuals moved into unrelated roles only to be fired later. High-performing employees are overlooked for promotions, while those lacking skills are advanced due to favoritism. There are cases where managers allow employees to work outside of their roles, disregarding company standards and processes, simply because someone wants to do a different job—and leadership does nothing to address it. Additionally, the company has struggled to adapt to remote work environments. DYING COMPANY – ACST has struggled for years to differentiate itself from competitors, a challenge made worse since the pandemic. Significant layoffs have occurred, and most of those positions have not been backfilled. While the company may appear financially stable on paper, this is largely due to its shrinking workforce.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience at ACST was so challenging. We’d like to address each of your areas of concern. Vision: While it may not have come through clearly in your experience, we do have a defined vision and long-term strategy, which we communicate regularly through company-wide meetings and planning sessions. Our strategic objectives guide our goals, product development efforts, and key performance indicators across all departments. That said, we recognize that a vision is only as powerful as how clearly and consistently it’s communicated and lived out—and we’ll work to ensure it resonates more meaningfully with every team member. ACST is home to many passionate, church-experienced employees who bring deep understanding of ministry needs. Acquisitions: You’re right that integrating acquisitions is complex, and we acknowledge there’s room to improve. We make acquisitions carefully and strategically, with the goal of strengthening our product ecosystem and better serving churches. We also recognize the importance of brand clarity and user experience, and both are areas of focus for our product and marketing teams. Work Environment & Team Dynamics: While reorganizations are sometimes necessary for strategic reasons, we approach them with care and consideration for team dynamics. Promotions and performance decisions go through a calibration process designed to promote fairness and consistency. We also encourage managers to offer stretch assignments when appropriate, to help employees grow into new opportunities—but we understand this should always be done thoughtfully and in alignment with role expectations. Remote Work & Culture: Like many organizations, we’ve been navigating the shift to remote work after decades of in-person operations. It hasn’t been without challenges, but we’ve made meaningful progress and continue to listen closely to employee feedback as we refine our remote practices. Layoffs & Financial Health: We understand that any position elimination—no matter how limited—has a real impact on people. While we’ve had a small number of role eliminations as part of our evolving business needs, these decisions are never taken lightly and we offer support to impacted employees. Our financial performance has remained strong, continuing to increase year over year, and our workforce has been growing steadily year over year (headcount has not decreased)—a sign that we’re investing in both our people and our future. We want to emphasize that employee input matters. Through surveys and focus groups, we regularly seek and act on feedback—our shift to remote work is one example of this. We know we don’t get everything right, but we’re committed to growing, listening, and improving—because our mission to serve churches and ministries depends on a healthy, engaged, and empowered team.

Pros

Insurance, 401K, remote/office flexibility. On site NP & Chiro.

Cons

Employee value has been steadily declining over the last 5 years. Sold to a private equity in December and had some major layoffs of central employees that had projects they were working on. Huge pressure on existing employees to pick up the pieces without any clear hand off. Resources are scarce and no clear understanding of goals.
