Pros
If you are a go-getter or generally smart, you will thrive at AGC. It is truly a sink or swim place in that you will be thrown into the fire immediately. There is a 2-week training program, but it is nothing to prepare for jumping into deals half a month into starting. The upside is that you learn a ton, and you learn it fast. There are analysts full-on running deals without PMs or guidance - something you will not find anywhere else. The exposure to SaaS founders, CEOs, and entrepreneurs is pretty unparalleled; combined with constant interaction with potential buyers exposes analysts to the world of tech. Also would note that the culture has come a long way from the previous reviews on this site - the Company does well putting on events / outings for the junior staff, and the team is very close. Everyone hangs out outside of the office and are truly friends. Leadership is also very flexible with things like working from AGC's other offices - nice if you want to spend a week in New York or London.
Cons
As the other reviews highlight, and as is standard throughout the industry, the hours are very tough - particularly for the first 6-9 months. Analysts can expect to work very late and most likely on weekends. The key to surviving at AGC is to keep a positive attitude - it can be easy to get frustrated with mundane or seemingly useless tasks. Working on business development work or research is just part of the job given the size of the Company. It can also sometimes be difficult to balance expectations and work prioritization - the volume of deals is insane; it is not uncommon for analysts to be on 4-6 live deals at the same time. The firm has so many Partners fending for their own interests, each with their own standard of how they like things done, combined with inexperienced/lackluster leadership from project managers who think they are god's gift to investment banking. Very old school style authority - gotta have thick skin at AGC
