FTE Consulting is Good, Not Great - Anonymous employee AIM Consulting Group, LLC Employee Review

Pros

Generally, it's a good place to work and have the support of your team. It's not a sink or swim environment. You're able to WFH most of the time unless you're a manager. The work is the same as being a W2. If you're an FTE, you're still paid while on the bench and looking for your next project. It's much more stable than working as a contractor on a W2 because you're paid in between projects. You also have PTO as an FTE and don't as a contractor.

Cons

AIM keeps requiring more and more of their consultants. As part of branding themselves as experts in 2025, they're now requiring Senior Consultant and above to have a professional level cert maintained. No salary bumps, no discussion, just this is the new requirement to work here. It makes sense for cloud partner status, but there's not a lot of value in it for the consultant. The majority of our work isn't cloud work, it's coding. It's hard to find motivation to do it outside of being fired if I don't. I find no value in it, so I just have to get it done if I want to continue to be an FTE. In the last year or so, leadership has required us to be in-office once a month for a team meeting. It's not a big deal, but is largely a waste of time to drive to the office and have a hour and a half meeting for team building reasons every month. I knew that FTE consultants had internal nonbillable time, but new cert requirements make this less worth it now. This wasn't a thing for W2 because it was just paid by the hour, but paid vacation time is nice as an FTE. If leadership keeps asking for more and not paying anything more, then contracting may be better because they don't have to do any of this. A few hours here and there is fine, but I don't want to spend lots of time outside of work on stuff like this because I have a life.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about updates to our training and certification requirements, as well as our hybrid work environment. AIM prides itself on our ability to deliver unmatched technical solutions for our clients. To meet the needs of our clients and our people, we regularly evaluate our needs for technical training and validate that training through well-established certification processes. AIM believes we’re better together, so we have a strong preference toward working together in our offices, in our clients' offices, and in community forums. We still believe the best way to connect with each other, share ideas, and build strong relationships comes from direct in-person interactions. We have created a hybrid work environment that supports our employees’ desire to optimize their work week, without sacrificing our ability to connect with each other and deliver the best possible solutions for our teams and clients. If you are a current employee, please reach out to your management or executive leadership. We would love to hear your perspective on these topics directly. If you’re a former employee, we’re glad you enjoyed your experience at AIM and we hope to work with you again in the future. We always appreciate feedback like this, it makes us better. Pros

- Nice office - A few smart and talented employees

Cons

- Tight-knight, "family" vibe: good if you've been there 15 years, but buyer beware if you haven't. - Poor project delivery, lack the ingredients to get there - Leadership clueless - internal politics requires them to sell out AIM to please the parent company, the Addison Group - Nearly weekly firing of employees creates unhealthy environment
