Pros

The people, I made more friends at AMC than at any other company I've worked for.

Cons

Work/life balance was awful. I never felt like I could take a day off, much less a week's vacation, or if I did I was punishing myself with the massive amounts of work I had to catch up on when I came back. I truly believe I was at AMC during their best years. AMC had some of their best years financially in the history of the company during the time I was there, granted the movie slate might have been the best it's ever been during that time as well, but I believe the credit goes to former CEO Gerry Lopez. Since Adam Aron has taken over, a massive shift in focus has taken place to keeping the shareholders happy, aka Wanda, who owns the majority of AMC's shares. I don't think anyone at AMC likes the fact that they are owned by the Chinese, it's nice to have their bankroll for funding the renovation projects and that's about it. There is some rising concern in America that China is trying to control American media, while Wanda does not seem to have any involvement in day to day operations and decisions at AMC, it is clear that Adam is concerned about making them happy, it seems in the form of making the almighty dollar. These are things we never heard Gerry talk about. Gerry's focus was on the guest, on superior guest service, and "doing the right thing." That's not to say Gerry didn't want the company to be profitable, but he talked about it in terms of providing the best possible experience for the guests which translates into loyalty and profitability for the company. Adam self-described himself as a greedy SOB, and has proven it with his quest to become the biggest movie exhibitor in the world with the recent acquisitions of other movie theatre chains, while Gerry was ok with not being the biggest, so long as AMC was the BEST. If you are in agreement with Adam's philosophy, you may do well at AMC, so long as you are willing to sacrifice any type of a life outside of work in order to be successful.
