Pros

The other film crew members in the theatre i work in are wonderful. We are like a family and its usually a fun time working with them. You'll get a lot of hours if you want them because everyone is always quitting and they're always understaffed. The only other good thing about working there is the free movies. Obviously we can see movies for free, but there isn't anything else good about AMC.

Cons

The Management is awful. They treat the crew members awful. the managers pretty much just stand around and tell us what we are doing wrong and never have positive feedback, if we are extremely busy they will just stand there. They all feel too proud to help, they think they are too good to rip tickets or stock popcorn. The good managers or supervisors get out of there as soon as they can because they hate it just as much as the rest of us. The hours we are forced to work are insane. Sometimes a 10 hour shift cleaning bathrooms all day on a busy weekend day or until 3am on a premier night when its out of your availability and they are aware that you have school the next day. We are always understaffed on busy weekends, especially busy premier nights and overstaffed on slow week days so they send you home early, which means you don't get paid for the hours that you expected to work that day. Also, on busy days when it is your scheduled time to leave, they try to force you to stay longer and act like there isn't anything else more important in the world than helping them since there wasn't enough people scheduled that day. They hardly ever approve the days that you request off. I always hear people tell me how hard of a time they are given when they try to take off for their birthday. Some of the managers will find any possible reason to fire the people that they simply don't like, which then causes extreme lengths of being understaffed all the time. Some of the managers are so scatterbrained that they stress the film crew out when nothing bad is actually happening and then they train new supervisors to be the same way. They promote people who have been there for less than two months before they ever consider someone who has been there for over two years. The managers favor the people who they hired, so if you have been working there longer than them, the newer mangers are less likely to like you. It is also very common for managers to give mock interviews to crew members who are applying for a supervisor position, to make it seem like they have a chance when in reality they are not even considering them for the position at all. Clearly my main issue is with the management. Working at amc wouldn't be so terrible if they changed their ways. People are quitting all the time, and usually the only reason they quit is because they hate the management so much. It seems ridiculous that a place thats supposed to bring so much joy to people entertainment wise is so negative behind the scenes. All the management cares about is the crew members selling the overpriced rewards cards to the customers. You can literally get fired if you don't sell enough for their liking. They want you to be as pushy as possible to the customers to convince them to get it, when in reality the customers are just getting annoyed with us. Our motto is "we make smiles happen" but really, we just make people really pissed off because the company just wants more money. Its exhausting to work there, mainly because of the superiors that you have to deal with on a daily basis. They simply do not care about their employees. As far as pay goes, we do not get paid enough for the hard work that we do. Most days I leave there dripping with sweat just like everyone else who works there and i get paid minimum wage. The little amount of money would be fine if we didnt have to clean up the dirty diapers we find while cleaning theaters or getting covered in disgusting garbage juice while walking around the theatre alone at night to collect all the trash and put it in the trash compactor, which is extremely creepy. Its also extremely easy to get hurt there since they do not provide quality oven mitts. Most of the oven mitts that we use to remove trays of pretzels out of a 600 degree oven have holes in them. Everyone has hands covered in scars from miserable burns. If you're lucky, a supervisor might give you burn cream, but you'll never get sent home, no matter how bad your burns are, and from experience, they can be so terrible that they'll keep you from sleeping at night because of the pain. Everything is always broken or leaking and the floors in the concession stand are so slippery, its dangerous to even walk back there. All in all, the cons of working at AMC completely outweigh the pros and i would never ever suggest to someone to work there.
