Pros

Excellent company to work for if this is your first job. In the Houston market there are a lot of amazing and patient GMs that will help guide you and train you to get you where you'd like to go. Entry level can be great for balancing school. Its possible to start at the bottom and move all the way up to GM. As you move through the ranks AMC will ask a lot of you in terms of service and financial understanding that other companies might not. They'll will provide the training necessary if you go after it. As Supervisor, hourly and salary manager, you get great health care, hourly and salary managers get paid time off. Hourly managers get extra pay on holidays. I think everyone of age is eligible for matching 401K. Over all, I think you can leave AMC with a lot if incredible work experience.

Cons

The buisness is open 360 days a year, only natural disasters will shut the buildings down, so expect to work nights, weekends, and holidays. For the volume of work you'll do, the pay is not enough. AMC considers itself competitive in that area, but truly they are behind the times. When they do raise position values, they'll turn around cut hours. Raises are done once a year and unless you are changing positions, no more than 3%. The job is demanding and as a manager, you'll often find that even on your days off, you're not really off. It's a very fast paced environment. At times very stressful. And unnecessarily competitive. Large markets also tend to be very political. If someone in the hierarchy, manager, senior manager, general manager, DO does not like you, it can take years for that person to move on for you to move up the ranks. One person can be in the way of your advancement. If you're a woman this treatment is even worse. You're often paid far less than male counterparts. Even males with less experience with tenure and experience in the company. Women are more often criticized for their attitudes instead of their actions on performance reviews. And their attempts to negotiate their salaries are often denied or low barred when compared to the men.
