Pros

As a special ed teacher at GlenOaks, you work with kind, compassionate and experienced professionals as a member of a team that is looking out for what is best for each student and how to best support each other as staff members. The level of insight into the therapeutic educational process continues to impress me along with the commitment for ongoing education and improvement. Coworkers are more than coworkers, just as the students are more than simply students. For any special ed teachers wondering if it is a good idea to work with students with emotional disabilities (given the data on high burnout for ED teachers), I would recommend taking a second look at GlenOaks. As a therapeutic school, GlenOaks administrators and staff know first-hand the daily challenges you face as a teacher and provide the help, advice and support you need to work successfully in an ED program. Everyone at the school is focused on the same needs and issues so you are not in the position of trying to explain what you or your students need to an administrator or other teachers who cannot really understand because their daily work lives are so different.

Cons

For some teachers, it might be frustrating to realize that their academic subjects are secondary to the emotional and behavioral progress the students need to make.

Pros

Nice small neighborhood hospital with many big hospital finds

Cons

When Amita health took them over, that's when it went down the tubes but now that this relationship is broken up, they are back on top especially having U of Chicago behind them
