Pros

12 hour roating shifts, no mandatory, dispatch staff and management above average environment. Multifunction dispatchers- Fire, EMS, 911 EMD and EFD calltaking, nonemergency dispatching and calltaking.

Cons

Classic private service expectations. Always short staffed, benefits are ok, pay "highest" in the region, the region as a whole is underpaid. Comparison to benefits at 911 dispatch centers, 911 benefits and pay are way better. Dispatching for EMS is a nightmare bc the EMS side is a nightmare in itself. Dispatching for the Fire side is ok, but they lack consistency themselves but they demand consistency from everyone else.

Pros

AMR San Mateo is making huge strides in changing the Old Boy culture of EMS. The operation is collaborative, cares for its employees, and acts with accountability.

Cons

Although it's much better than it was, AMR San Mateo still deals with staffing issues, primarily for medics, and forced mandation is still in play.
