Pros

Overall, AMR in San Bernardino County is a pretty decent place to work, especially if you're young and using it as a stepping stone to a better position. This job provides a lot of good work experience since AMR has the 9-1-1 contract and the coverage area itself is quite varied. AMR also has the contract for the Speedway in Fontana which is fun to work at if you get a chance. Another nice thing about AMR, is their approach to education and training. As a current employee, you can sign up for just about any CE or certification course they’re offering free of charge and their CES department is always willing to help if you want to review a skill. They spend a good amount of time training new hires (2 week orientation + 6-10 shifts with an FTO) and if you make a mistake on the job, most of the time they’re willing to work with you and retrain you as necessary instead of just outright firing you. One of the best things about working at AMR though, is the people. I wasn’t super close friends with a lot of people, but most people who work there are friendly, funny, and nice and I don’t remember meeting any coworkers or supervisors/managers that I didn’t at least generally like.

Cons

Unfortunately the pay is very low. Hopefully this has improved since I left two years ago.

Pros

There’s a good workforce here with employees who are well united on issues a strong sense that the company is actually pushing toward a positive future in terms of operations. Ambulance fleet seems to be getting good upgrades and call volume (in most areas) is manageable. There is also a good amount of OT available with bonuses/incentives available. Matching 401k is nice and health benefits are very reasonable.

Cons

For being such a large operation, the pay rate seems to be lacking as of right now. Most employees with adult responsibilities are having to rely heavily on overtime/incentives just to have a semi-comfortable lifestyle outside of work. Uniforms definitely need improvements and training for new EMTs seems a bit lackluster. The morale can be low at times also due to the company being write-up happy (for lack of a better term). Lack of 24 hour units and proper posting locations makes for a somewhat harsh work day as well.
