Pros
The people are great to work with and I have made some lasting friendships with my colleagues. The animals are wonderful to interact with. Benefits are good. The common goal of helping animals is an admirable one.
Cons
It's a toxic atmosphere at the 92 Street location. Management is out of touch and doesn't seem to care about their many dissatisfied employees. Nearly every week I happen upon colleagues who are upset over managers behavior towards them or being overwhelmed by the quantity of work that needs to be done. There's an increasing stress on numbers and meeting quotas without giving employees the support and extra staff that they need to accomplish such things. Moving up or across the company really depends on what department you start in and whether your manager likes you. If you're unlucky, you get stuck in a position. If you're popular with the right people, the chance of being promoted is much higher. There seems to be a push to install core values into the company, but there's just a lot of talk there and not much action. It seems nice on paper to talk about these values, but then you look around and see many potentially strong employees are deeply unhappy.
