Pros
-The animals (obviously) -Many different departments, so there are options for people with maybe more specialized interests
Cons
-Low pay and mediocre benefits -The union takes out $50 a month to do absolutely nothing for its members ("forced" overtime, all time accrued is considered PTO. there is no separation of sick time versus paid time off. So the hours you get for calling out sick are coming from the same hours you use to plan a future vacation. Ridiculous) -NO ROOM FOR GROWTH. This company is notorious for hiring externally for higher up positions and promotions. If you come in as an animal care staff member, your chances of becoming anything beyond that are honestly slim to none. -Management is terrible -Majority of the staff is jaded, burnt out and unprofessional (constant callouts, high turnover of employees)
