Pros
Throughout the history, ASPCA has made a huge difference in animal welfare. Striving to give a voice to the voiceless, ASPCA has developed multiple programs over the years that help promote adoption, aid animal cruelty cases, shut down puppy mills, investigate negligence and humane treatment of owned animals, offer community service to pets living in poverty to prevent shelter relinquishment etc. It has also pushed to pass bills that outlaw pet sales and replace them with adoptable animals from shelters and rescue groups. Overall, I think ASPCA does great work to aid animals and the community in need. It also values education and does its best to support staff and diversity.
Cons
In my role specifically, growth is slow to non. Core staff who work on the floor daily tends to get burned out by the volume of work with little incentives. It seems like the industry standard due to the high volume of unwanted animals and low salary, which needs to be revisited and reformed.
