Pros
About the only thing that was positive was the experience I gained, since they expect you to do everything given to you, without any training. So you get a lot of hands on experience. Subsidized lunch and dinner at HQ was nice as well, but that was about the only real perk.
Cons
If you're not Taiwanese, forget about moving up in the company. The bamboo ceiling is very much alive with ASUS, and you will not move higher than an IC position unless you can speak a lick of Mandarin. Even if you can, they rarely trust outsiders. Most of the upper managerial staff around the world are all expats from Taiwan, even if it's the Middle East or South America The pay is pretty terrible as well, and they will use any justification to not pay out a decent bonus. "We had a bad month, so the bonus for 2013 will be lower as a result." They treat their employees simply as cogs in the workforce. Burnout and attrition is extremely high, and they do nothing to retain top talent. It's very much a "burn and churn" culture. 60+ hour work weeks are the norm, not the exception. Since ASUS is considered a prestigious company to work for, there is a line out the door for applicants and the mentality is, "You don't want to work here anymore? No problem, we'll hire someone from NTU (National Taiwan University) at half the cost. Cost savings!" The 3J's (Jonney, Jerry, Jonathan) have final say and approval in everything (which they review EVERYTHING), from Marketing for individual products to company direction, including expense reports for entry level people for travel, so it makes getting things done rather difficult. The CEO Jerry Shen is notorious for announcing products at stock holder meetings to quell investors when their stock price has performed below average, which makes the marketing teams around the world want to pull their hair out. The intranet is a joke, as it's been patched up together over the years so it's still backwards compatible with IE6 so the C level people don't need to upgrade their browsers (because they don't want to).
