      Beware - Senior Biologist ATCC Employee Review

      Pros

      Nice Coworkers. Other then that, not else.

      Lousy pay and lousy culture. The company is top heavy with senior management most of whom don't care whats actually happening in the labs and lower management who are largely recycled from eliminated positions. I've been there for 4 years and of the 4 lab managers in my department 2 have been removed (not fired) because of abusive practices. Whats more, since they are mostly recycled, they are rarely a good fit. I can say without any qualms that this is the worst run organization I have ever seen and by all means stay away unless you are desperate.

      Pros

      - Benefits are pretty good -People I directly work with in the labs are good at their jobs - Manassas Campus has a convenient grab and go food area which helps out when I forget to pack a lunch / don't have time to go out and grab something -Closed between Christmas and New Years

      Cons

      - Needs better coverage for mental health care - It seems like a lot of money goes towards administrative areas, while the lab wings are pretty cramped. It badly needs an extension with additional lab spaces. - Company recently changed from biweekly paychecks to weekly paychecks, which limits the ability to flex time, and being salaried, overtime is not compensated. -Can be very difficult to climb the ladder. Admin staff seem to be promoted more easily than lab staff. - Large reliance on paper records - Management tends to rush implementation of new systems before they're ready - Even with this being a non-profit, C-suite management makes multi-hundred-thousand-dollar salaries, and the old CEO was making over $2M in 2024 while not contributing much. It's hard to believe they're in touch with the common employee - Dragged their heels on implementing parental leave until forced to by law. HR loves to emphasize the small things they implement. -No leave sharing program
