Some issues, but a decent place to work overall - Delivery Driver Abby's Pizza Employee Review

Pros

I have great coworkers and management (at least at my store). Dress code is pretty casual - jeans and company t-shirt, kitchen shoes, and hat or hair net. Work apparel is provided for you - you don't have to pay for your own hats, shirts, etc. Delivery drivers use company cars and gas is paid for using a company card. Drivers get their base wage plus tips. Kitchen staff splits counter/dine-in/take-out tips each night. Flexible scheduling so usually easy to schedule around appointments, vacations, etc., as long as submitted in advance. Company also offers a 401K plan.

Cons

Cons are mostly related to upper management. During intense heat waves with 100+ degree days, our director of operations still refused to let any staff, including drivers who work outside, to wear weather appropriate clothing. Shorts, no matter the length, are not allowed, and the company provided shirt is solid black and thick cotton that does not breath. You are not allowed to wear your own solid black but breathable t-shirt. It has to be theirs. We had a driver get heat exhaustion and have to leave work mid-shift this last summer. I've been told even the OWNERS of Abby's are okay with shorts when its hot out but they gave the decision making power to their director of operations, and he won't budge on the issue. Local management has their hands tied but is sympathetic to their employees. There are similar issues that come up from time to time that make it seem like someone who has never actually worked in a kitchen or outside in any kind of weather is making decisions for those who do.

Pros

This was a wonderful place to work. Upper management was well trained and knowledgeable. Always room for advancement.

Cons

Some of the workers had little to no work ethic.

Pros

The pay was okay, but tips were pretty decent on most evenings. Customers were generally nice enough, and the free food once in a while never hurts. The product is good, some of the best pizza around, so actually being able to recommend your food is an obvious plus to anyone who has ever worked at a bad restaurant before.

Cons

On busy nights, the teamwork was lacking. When you wind up short staffed (which happens more often than it should), you have to spend the evening working pretty hard, and quickly becomes an exhausting night. Management was chill enough, but they definitely weren't the leadership types, but I guess that's okay for a pizza restaurant. It's not like we were saving lives or anything.
