Pros
- Each shift is different/ unique experiences - Rewarding at times - Comradery with peers and PD, FD, and ED - Overtime - Supervisors are often helpful, friendly, and understanding - Employee owned - Better sleep schedule when on a permanent truck - Possibility of working with some awesome people, makes the shift much more enjoyable - You meet a lot of people and learn a lot - It is what you make it
Cons
Typical of EMS, in general: - Patient abuse of the system - Getting off late - Gossip - Low morale among peers - Must eat and use the bathroom whenever possible, sometimes hard to get the opportunity - Long hours - Possibility of experiencing abuse from patients - Propensity to get hurt on the job (ex. lifting patients) - Stressful - Much to learn as you go/trial by fire - Poor sleep schedule whenever "in flex" (basically on call) - etc.
