Pros
I've worked in a variety of roles since I was hired on here during the pandemic and I've got to say that you can very easily get spoiled while working for Advance Local. Remote-first, but hybrid optional policy, company computers and cell phones provided, decent PTO that increases each year, an occasional bonus at the end of the year...so on and so forth. Though I was hired on for a different role, I eventually switched to the current one I hold, but between the two, you can very easily get comfortable and do the same thing day in and day out if you're not careful. While management and editors are around day by day, it's not uncommon to go a day or two without hearing from them. Personally, that's fine by me, but others might not like how hands off bosses can be. For the outlet I work for, most workers are pretty liberal.
Cons
Sometimes bosses can be hands off and sometimes bosses want to know what you're doing each second of the day. There's yearly performance reviews, but there's no real push to actually do what they outline in them. These are where you get your raises, usually 2-3%, which, doesn't do too much as other costs keep rising. In certain roles, you can get your work done early in the week and not have to work much until the weekend. Kind of decent diversity, but most workers are in their mid-30s. Very few are under 25. At least for my outlet.
