Pros

I've been working for the national office of this organization for a few years now. I absolutely love the values of this workplace, and the people that I work alongside every day. My pay is good, they provide benefits, and everyone gets a raise during their annual review as long as they've accomplished the goals they set with their supervisor. One of my favorite things about working here is how much the staff as a whole cares about each of their coworkers. ASAS is remarkably good at being flexible and supportive when a member of the staff is going through something outside of work, whether it be illness, a family tragedy, a sick kid, or even just little things like needing to take a long lunch/leave early to take care of a personal errand. The daily work is challenging, but rewarding. It feels great to do work that I care about, and that makes an impact on the kids we serve. The workload gets pretty intense sometimes, as happens in nonprofits, but my team and the other departments are great at making sure I'm supported and putting up with my last-minute requests if I get behind. ASAS also has a heavy focus on professional development/improvement, so my supervisor has worked with me to create personal goals and strategies that have strengthened my performance and lessened my stress. There's also a fair amount of room for growth, especially since we're expanding so quickly. Multiple coworkers of mine have been promoted since I started, and my superiors have made it clear that there is room for growth in my position should I want it. ASAS always posts jobs internally before posting them externally to give the existing staff a chance. Overall, I'd say that I love this job more and more the longer I'm here. I won't be leaving anytime soon!

Cons

Due to the insanely rapid growth of the national staff (it's at least doubled in size since I started), a lot of systems aren't smooth yet. This sometimes causes projects to take longer than they should, or causes miscommunication. It can be frustrating, but I'm confident that over time, as the systems get ironed out, things will get easier. There will always be curveballs to deal with, but that's nonprofit life! I think transparency, both within the national office and nationwide, could be improved. It's decent, but it could be better. A better healthcare plan would also be nice.

Pros

The vision of the program, it's overall reach, and the children in the communities. The opportunities it gives the kids really is great. The kids are the only good thing. The place makes impact when (if) it's done correctly.

Cons

The NY leadership is absolutely horrible. Their staff turnover is the craziest thing to ever be witnessed !!!! There's tons of nepotism!!! It's about who is the favorite, and who is gunna follow what they say and not question it. It's basically led by a mean girls group. They don't like people who speak up or question them. And if they don't like YOU they'll make sure you know it and feel it up until you either quit or they find the quickest opportunity to get rid of you. HR is just as bad so don't even think about going there unless you just want to expedite your unemployment or just be dismissed acting like you're crazy for even considering speaking They don't train you but expect you to do and know a whole bunch of things It's actually ridiculous how much they preach and sell these dreams and paint the pretty picture but can be so disgusting to adults and work with KIDS. Can't speak for other chapters, but this ones got major problems. I'd be shocked if they lasted another 5 years.
