Pros

Large company with a significant share of the market. I has weight to throw around. Benefits are okay, though they're nothing special by any means. Work-life balance is decent and the four weeks of vacation time are respected by the team and management. Some area for growth. Some really smart people working there.

Cons

Avoid if you are looking for a collaborative environment that uses contemporary concepts & tools. It's slowing getting there, but that's years away. Agilent tends to be extremely siloed, making it very difficult to work across teams. The technical pieces ares heavily outsourced to India, making it incredibly difficult to move quickly. There's an obnoxious political thicket to navigate and the passive-aggressive culture is such that you need to watch what you say (it could come back to bite you). The baby-boomer heavy employee base seems more interested in protecting what's theirs than working together to reach a shared goal. This prevents the company from moving forward. People are SURPRISED when you're willing to help them. Even communication within teams is terrible. The company is HIGHLY dependent on email and long WebEx meetings. Decisions are consensus driven, causing enormous delays in decision making because someone is constantly challenging the idea. Very often, the only way to move forward with something is wait for someone to retire. You see a lot of people with either 10-30 years or 1-3 years at Agilent. There's not a lot in between because the culture is so change averse. Management harps on this "One Agilent" initiative (breaking down silos) that is not getting realized. Middle management is simply not on board. Nonetheless, leadership still takes every opportunity to talk up the initiative, making it seem even more disconnected. There is little transparency on discussions and decisions being made even a level or two above you.

They talk about how they care about their employees, but then did a sudden layoff because profits were only at +X% instead of +Y%
