Pros
Lots of nice people and most employees can maintain a much better work-life balance than at FAANG or a startup. You can build big new things with funding from a large parent company. You can have a good experience working here.
Cons
Don't come into the organization expecting it to operate like a native tech company or a standalone retailer. The work Ahold Delhaize is trying to do through Peapod Digital Labs is counter-cultural for the grocery industry, but PDL's customers are a group of traditional grocery store brands who are used to calling the shots for their respective businesses. This can lead to sub-optimization of the e-commerce platform at the whim of a specific brick-and-mortar leader, product decisions that might seem baffling in a stand-alone tech company, and ways of operating that are not agile (think slow/opaque decision-making and waterfall/monolithic execution). Key context: the most senior leaders in PDL are long-time parent company insiders.
