Pros

Above average benefits, excellent top of the line office furniture, plenty of office supplies goo cafeteria and fitness facilities. Co-workers were generally friendly but not sophisticated.

Cons

Being an Electrical Engineer at a chemical company has its problems. Most level of management are Chemical Engineers and they don't understand anything electrical and certainty not software. They tend to hire mostly non college grads and groom them to take on more responsibility. This works for only a few truly smart people where as the rest of them get feelings of grandeur and that they are equal to a degree holder. Employees who make recommendations for improving things get branded as winy but outside consultants, who make the same recommendations are hailed as visionaries. If you are an underachiever who would fit in well in a government job then Air Products would be a good place to work.

Pros

I learned a lot from the teams I worked with over my tenure. If I was particularly interested in learning about certain parts of the business, I was often allowed to tackle those challenges. Mentors were very helpful and encouraging. I enjoyed the people I worked with and they always tried to open doors into other parts of the company I was interested in.

Cons

If you want to be doing mostly pure mechanical design work, there is less of that available at Air Products. Lots of opportunities for operations, project management, and EPC roles for mechanical engineers, and pressure vessel work from my perspective. In the initial round of placements, you get matched to one team (you can join or not) — it was not exactly my cup of tea from a day to day work perspective. Second round, I was able to join a team where I absolutely loved doing the day to day work.
