Good culture, but management under staffed/under resourced - Manager Alaska Airlines Employee Review

Pros

Nice people, flexible work schedules, decent benefits.

Cons

All company profits are tied up in improving customer experience or rewarding shareholders, therefore next to nothing is spent to support back office staff. This is evidenced by crazy burden placed on management (non customer-facing employees)...poorly managed facilities (1980s decor, mismatched office furniture, inefficient HVAC, etc), lack of IT resources and admin support, lack of time to ensure quality, etc. It is difficult to meet deadlines, get responses from other departments, or schedule a meeting because everyone is crazy busy. The company winds up taking the cheap/quick approach, rather than the best approach, to solve a problem, which results in inefficiency and wasted resources down the line. A vicious cycle ensues. Maddening!

Pros

The travel benefits are excellent, and the job offers opportunities to meet people from all over the world. My coworkers were supportive, teamwork was strong, and no two days were ever the same. The role helped me build confidence, improve customer service skills, and learn how to stay calm under pressure.

Cons

The schedule can be unpredictable, with long duty days, early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays away from family. The job can also be physically demanding, and dealing with difficult passengers can be stressful.
