Pros

* Generally a pretty relaxed atmosphere, not very stressful * Very strong benefits package with more PTO than most other companies and a mediocre pension plan...but a mediocre pension plan > nonexistent pension plan at almost all companies! * I like pretty much everyone that I've met working there

Cons

This probably isn't unique just to Allstate, but promotions can get very political. Most of leadership clearly plays favorites, and if you don't get into the cool kid's club early enough into your career, you'll be stuck as an individual contributor. A lot of people regularly transfer jobs to stay within the company since they like the environment but see it as their only chance to grow...then they don't, rinse and repeat. This is further made worse by a company policy that lateral transfers aren't to get raises, or at least not significant ones. This applies specifically to Allstate Benefits, but I don't think the company has a bright long-term future. The sky won't fall tomorrow or probably not this decade, but more and more primary health insurers like Cigna or Blue Cross are starting to offer the same products we are...but we don't offer the products they offer. That gives them an enormous advantage over us, and we've slowly been losing market share to competitors that can offer more. I expect this to continue and over time, tough decisions will have to be made.

Pros

Remote Good management Flexible schedule PTO

Cons

Sales fluctuate month to month dramatically and lacks predictability (I've been in other sales industries where sales fluctuate, but are far more predictable and stable). It's truly all over the place, which makes financial budgeting impossible. Calling leads who are broke and can't afford quality coverage. Periods where it is completely dead- you can't get a person to answer the phone, regardless of making 200+ calls in a day.
