Pros

Discount, great coworkers, friendly guests

Cons

I applied to Altar’d State in early May, and did not hear anything back from them until around the second week of June. I had one interview with the assistant store manager, and everything went great. She was open and so fun to talk to. Then my follow up interview was with the store manager. She was very closed off, rude, and did not seem very interested. However, they hired me. I started at $16/hour, which is an awesome hourly rate. My first two-ish weeks were for training. Training which consisted of watching a few videos with no follow up explanations from the SM or ASM. In my first week, I was put on sanctuary. Keep in mind, I worked at a VERY high volume store, as it is the only location within 200 miles. I would continuously ask for help and the “butterfly” that was supposed to help me basically told me to do it on my own. The floor was changed every single morning, so I had no clue where anything was moved to. I would have tons of “go backs” with no help. Even when I would ask for it. I need to add that everyone told me if I needed help to ask for it and someone would come. One day I was having a very rough day at home. I am not the type to bring outside drama into the work place, but this day I was very anxious and upset. I was in the sanctuary, where I struggled a lot, and there was a mystery shopper. When I finally broke down and cried from the stress and anxiety of trying to put on the front of a perfect employee and trying to leave the outside mess out, I thought I was having a confidential conversation with a butterfly. In the conversation, I cussed. This made us fail our audit. Instead of talking to me and making sure I was ok and asked if I needed any help or prayers, the store manager planned on firing me. Her exact words were, “I love when things work out so I don’t have to be the bad guy.” If you have any stress, anxiety, or worries, I definitely do not recommend working for Altar’d State. I would surpass my sales goals everyday by a minimum of $500. However, this was not enough to see me as a valuable employee. The “butterflies” and managers do not care about you as a person. They are all money hungry.

Pros

Customers are largely nicer than average retail. If you get a good local management team, it is bearable. Playlist is long enough that you don't go insane. Charity programs are nice. Local management does tend to really work around your schedule as much as possible.

Cons

Pay is awful for the level of service required. Uniforms are so strict they limit your makeup and require jewelry. Feels like you have to dress as some weird tradwife denim fetish. The "Christianity" is performative at best with the low necklines. If you are large chested, you are required to cover up your cleavage with a bando you must pay for because they decided how low the uniform necklines are. And corporate can never be wrong so you are the source of sin, obviously.
