Pros
The salary is ok. Good insurance and 401(k) match. Terrible bonus. It ranges from $6,000-$9,000 depending on performance.
Cons
The job is essentially a blue-collar sign changer in dirty convenience stores. You deal with uneducated store owners and managers who are mean, unprofessional and sketchy. Your garage becomes a personal storage unit for Altria. Territories have gotten very large with significant daily drive times. I spent about 4 hours driving in and out of my territory daily. And that is on top of the huge, unmanageable workload. The culture is toxic. Senior leadership is out of touch. Market managers are clueless. They all promise high-performers promotions. But there is no where to promote anyone because the industry is severely declining. If you are considering an internship here, DO NOT WORK HERE. The slick folks selling you the job and the company sell products that kill people. They are selling you a lie. And they are really good at it. Promotions are nearly impossible, TSMs are miserable, and the job is mindless. Due to the regular lay offs, TSMs have turned on one another because everyone is competing for limited spots. The culture is toxic. Group text messages starting at 6am, texts on the weekends, racist comments being tolerated at the manager level during meetings, and the good ol boys club sense of humor rampant. If you speak up, you will get a target on your back. They are trying to change culture from the CEO level and down, but TSMs are heavily resistant to change. The culture is like the 1980s.
