Pros
During my 2 years at AmaWaterways, I found my colleagues to be hard-working, trustworthy, friendly, and talented. The employees at Ama are overqualified for the work they're doing, which lead to a higher quality of content. You will feel like a part of the 'AmaFamily,' and everyone wants the best for each other and the company. People are proud of their work and eager to share. AmaWaterways is a nice place to hone your skills or begin your career, but don't expect to grow within the company
Cons
One of the most discouraging aspects of my tenure was not seeing any of my fellow colleagues promoted internally. Although my time at AmaWaterways was impacted by the pandemic, which majorly affected the travel industry, many employees who took on the workload of those who were laid off in early 2020 were overlooked for promotions and raises in favor of seemingly nepotistic outside hires. Communication between management and between departments could be improved. Oftentimes new products will be announced to travel advisors at the same time as they're announced to employees, leaving the team to scramble to create assets, leading to more mistakes. You'll be told that loyalty is highly regarded, but some of the first people to lose their positions during the pandemic were those with the longest tenure at AmaWaterways. There is no official onboarding, and reservations training is not structured, leading to a high turnover rate.
