Pros
High pay and an unmatched learning curve. You will gain an incredible amount of experience in a very short period of time, faster than almost anywhere else. The pace forces rapid growth and skill development. However, this intensity comes with a high risk of burnout.
Cons
I worked at Amazon as a Senior Manager, and it was by far one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. Yes, the pay is good—but you earn every dollar with your mental health. The leadership culture was deeply toxic, with constant pressure, unrealistic expectations, and a complete lack of empathy for employees as people. The environment created so much stress that I ultimately had to go on stress leave due to the mental trauma caused by the job. What really says it all is that I walked away from an $80K bonus because staying was not worth the damage being done to my well-being. No amount of money compensates for a work environment where burnout is normalized and leadership behavior actively contributes to anxiety and exhaustion. If you’re considering a senior role here, go in with your eyes wide open. The compensation may look attractive, but the cost is much higher than what’s listed in the offer letter.
