Pros
-Diverse Opportunities: Plenty of internal paths to explore. -High Talent Density: Coworkers are generally very intelligent and capable. -Strong Benefits: Excellent healthcare coverage.
Cons
-Heavy Internal Politics: Success is often more about navigating office politics than merit. -Promotion Bias: In my 9 years here, I’ve observed that career advancement is heavily dependent on proximity to leadership and "playing the game" rather than objective performance. -Ops vs. Corp: Operations: Faster promotion cycles, but the burnout rate is high, especially for L7 and below. Work life balance is near non-existent. Corporate: Stagnant growth unless you are highly favored by upper management. Work life balance is better if you're not in tech. -The "Internal Tax": By compensation policy, internal promotions land you at the bottom of the pay band. Boomeranging (leaving for a year and being rehired) is the only reliable way to get a market-rate salary.
