Pros
- Looks good on a resume! - Latest technologies - Good flexibility in tech choices - Knowledgeable coworkers
Cons
- Manager illegally breached medical confidentiality by contacting my medical provider and requesting that I be released from the hospital one day after major surgery (30 was recommended) - Managers encourage a culture of fear in order to encourage overworking, praising 60 hour+ work weeks and singling out anyone who works only the hours they are paid for - Restrictive political hierarchy explicitly modeled after the military - "Managing Out" process - Amazon has a secret process for when they want an employee out of the team. During this process, the manager is encourages to "get rid of" the employee in any way possible (making life uncomfortable for the employee). Myself and two coworkers experienced months of gaslighting (daily 1-hour calls with manager) and assignments of unrealistic tasks. If the employee sticks around long enough despite the abuse, they are given a large lump sum if they quit. This is all done to improve Amazons fire vs quit statistics, and to avoid paying ex-employees unemployment. - Micromanaging - Most important choices are made due to political reasons, again guided by the culture of fear
