Pros

There is a fair bit of opportunity and upward mobility at amazon, if you are willing to drink the koolaid and play the corporate game. Pay and benefits are OK for the job sector and responsibilities - OK, not great.

Cons

The Site Procurement Manager role (formerly known as Procurement Operations Analyst) was once a great and enjoyable job. It had a lot of autonomy and freedom, and there used to be a high level of trust from management. They have since “metric-ized” every conceivable aspect of the job. If you hold this position, you are now reduced to a number - that is what you feel like. You are literally ranked on a scale with all your peers and treated like your respective “ranking.” You are held to a KPI / metric performance standard of 100% all the time - an unrealistic expectation to place on people that ultimately causes an extreme amount of stress and anxiety. Making the “standard,” performance expectation 100% also does absolutely nothing to reward the high performers who actually do hit 100% on their metrics consistently, because that’s “just expected.” The expectations of the job are outrageously high, and the senior management within the organization seemingly uses fear-based management strategies in an effort to scare site procurement managers into hitting their unrealistic standards week over week and month over month. If you make 1 mistake in a week or miss 1 metric related item (that might be out of your control), you are considered to have “failed” the entire week. Even if you did 99% of your responsibilities correctly. Most of the people that I know that currently hold this job are at their absolute wits end, and either actively interviewing outside of amazon / seeking other employment, or contemplating leaving the job. It is an awful job, in every sense of the word. And it’s a shame because it doesn’t have to be that way.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
