Pros

AWS has complex products, so learning new tools and technologies becomes a daily task. You always have something new to explore and discover—even experienced engineers aren't experts in everything at the company, so it empowers you to take initiative. I've felt appreciated in my work and motivated by my team. My team has been good at work-life balance most of the time, where my manager tells me to go home if I stay past 5:30.

Cons

On-call can be a taxing experience. Depending on the team, this can be one week in six. During on-call, you can get paged at any hour of the day or night to fix problems. While rewarding, it takes away some of the work-life balance.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
